Symposium Organization

The three day event will consist of several in-depth invited lectures from leading specialists as well as contributed talks chosen from abstract submission. Specifically, the tentative format of the symposium is:

1. Tutorial lectures for those attendees not fully acquainted with the following aspects:

Multiresolution and multiscale representations of data
Multiscale finite element methods
Homogenization of PDEs
Multigrid methods

2. Invited lectures on these specialized topics:

Wavelets, curvelets, ridgelets
Multiresolution representations of geometry and data on irregular domains and subdivisions
Algebraic homogenization of numerical PDEs
Algebraic and renormalization multigrid
Variational multiscale methods
Homogenization and finite element approximation
Large eddy simulation of turbulence
Fast solver techniques for ab-initio physics and chemistry

3. Contributed talks chosen from abstract submissions on specialized topics germane to the theme of the symposium.

4. Scheduled breakout sessions and informal time for researchers from various disciplines to explore (and exchange ideas about) future solutions to currently unsolved problems.
